  1. Golgotha

The minute I saw the title
    I knew it was important
    With the Passion Play paraded
    up the hill to Calvary
    Roman soldiers whipping and
    flogging the Son of Man
    With browns and black colors
    portraying the minds of the
    People of His day
    when they knew innocence
was on the heart and lips of
the ruler Pilot as the unspoken
    Jesus
    came without
    complaint
    to the
    place
    of death
    without
    complaint
    As His Will
    was done and
    Finished the
    final
    temptation
    Conquered as man
    is redeemed
    The picture Golgotha by
    Hill
    and his abstract form
    makes the painting
    ever more powerful
    with doubt spreading throughout
    the structure of colors
    what was the figure?
    Can you see it?

    With the
    colors depicting Sacrifice
    With browns and blacks
    significant as the story
    Where the darkness is
    an example of how we
    struggle with understanding
the scene of our own hearts
To believe it is us killing
    Jesus
    or is it us
    being redeemed?
    Save the tears
    for the blacks and browns
    as the abstract accounts
for the lack of our own faith

  2. Bowed down before mystery
    Broken
    Shards of splintered wood
    Pierce
    Thorny crown
    Entombs
A thin line of red blood
    Trickles
    Traces round the contours
    Stabs
    What’s left of
    The heart.

At the foot of the cross
    Waits
    Emptied by human
    Sorrow
    Hollowed chalice arms
    Behold
    Naked waiting to be
    Filled.

    In darkness of
    Despair
    Sun down is
    Overtaken

    By recognition of
    Light
    Grace given
    Vision
    Illuminates the
    Unknowable
    Resurrection
    Trusted geyser of
    Golgatha
    Resets rhythm
    Again.
