  1. Advent Tradition

    O’ Antiphon melody
    In minor tones
    Waft a web enchanted of
    Stillness.

    Sprinting fast since dawn
    How does one settle
    Sit and digest
    Listen.

    O’ Antiphons suspend
    Wisdom, Key, Creator
    Dayspring and Root
    Timeless.

    Cosmos unexplained
    Descending like dew
    Billions of years
    Break into now.

    O’ Antiphons trumpet
    Emmanuel arrived
    Cosmic egg cracked open
    Home.

  2. The Family

We gather at a week before
    The holiday festivities

    Every person has a job
    To do in the process

    Of making the traditional
    Tamales

    The Aunt has the masa
    just right with the oil

    And the kneading of dough
My position is to sit back

And watch the women do the
Work since I have the task

    Of being with my wife
    Who is spreading the masa

As they pass it to the next
    person with the pork

As they wrap the tamales up
In a corn husk and thin paper

The game is on while the women
Work to get two hundred made
