This month, we're writing about joy!

  1. Hearing the sound of joy

When a boy, my mom let me
    stay home from school
    because I told her I
    felt sick

    After awhile,
    when I was alone
    at home I started
    feeling better and
    went out into the
    backyard, in my PJ's
    and looked over the
    fence where my tree
    house let me peak at
    the school in the back
    where the girls and boys
were at recess in the field
    running and yelling

"Ted, Ted, here, kick it here
    Ted, Mark, Mark, here, here,
    Here, kick it to me!"
    The screams from the many
    The laughter from the throngs
    The shouts, the running around
Without a fear, without a want
    Only the serenade of play
Being in a rhythm stinging my
    ears, wishing I was there
    laughing with the rest
    of my friends

    The laughter collided
    With the bell calling
    the children from the
    yard and back to the
    classes
    This moment of hearing
the joy of all the kids
    playing without regard
    for anything
    A joy
    full of
    screams
    laughter
    and a state
    of euphoria
    from the sense
    of recess being
    rich with life

  2. Grandfather sighting: sounds of joy - Jeanne

    Drumming waves
    Spill
    Rhythms deep
    Hushed fog
    whoosh
    Halo-ing my ears.

    Adrenaline breathes
    Catch
    As cotton fog
    Snip
    Away the outline
    Of grandfather
    Wolf.
